Deadline looms for the Detroit River Canadian Student Video Contest

Do you attend a secondary school in Essex County? Are you interested in the state of our local environment? Are you skilled in graphic design and making videos? If you’ve answered yes then we have the perfect project for you. The Detroit River Canadian Cleanup (DRCC) is reminding local students that the deadline for submissions is only a month away for its “ACTION! Detroit River Student Video Contest”; Submissions must be received by Friday March 25, 2011.

The contest is aimed at getting local youth engaged in local environmental issues by tapping into their creativity and talent to develop a short (30 second) advertisement to promote the protection/restoration of the Detroit River ecosystem.

Secondary school students (up to 4 in a group) can submit their video entry (in French or English) until March 25, 2011. At that time, the DRCC selection committee will choose the Top 10 videos and post them to their website for public voting. The winners will be announced in May 2011. There are cash prizes (up to $500) available for students as well as a grant for each of the three winning schools (to be used for environmental, science, or media technology programs).
