Biz BlogsBiz BloggersMarissa ReaumeIs Denmark Disrespecting Nature?Posted March 15, 2010 @ 5:50PM I recently received an email asking for me to sign a petition defending the lives of innocent Calderon dolphins which are killed every year in Feroe Island Denmark. The killings are part of a ritual that young men take part in to show that they are adults and are mature. As the killings take place, onlookers watch with amusement and cheer the killers on as if they were watching a sports match. The dolphins, which are on the verge of becoming extinct, do not die instantly and let out painful cries as they are slaughtered with thick hooks. The pictures in the email reveal how the waters have turned red from dolphin blood. Other pictures of this ritual included in the email are very graphic and disturbing and show bleeding and brutally damaged dolphin carcasses in a sea of men holding hooks amid entertained onlookers cheering on the acts of murder. In my opinion, it seems very immature to brutally kill an innocent being for amusement. The closing sentence in the email says, “Take care of the world, it’s your home.” I completely agree with this statement and believe that those partaking in this ritual are being destructive, and are therefore demonstrating a severe form of disrespect for the earth and its creatures. What are your thoughts on this and is there anything that we can do to stop the cruel and unnecessary dolphin murders in Denmark? ![]() |
